Renewing Your Mind

Rom12-2-Tyn34

William Tyndale’s translation of Romans 12:1-3 varies a little from the King James Bible, but there’s not a huge difference. I especially was struck by Tyndale’s turn of phrase in verse 2: “be ye changed in your shape, by the renewing of your wits…”. The King James Bible has: “be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…” Both translations are very understandable and convey the same message — just in slightly different wording. Sometimes it is good to read a verse in more than one translation.

I need to be busy, myself, in “changing my shape by renewing my wits.” One good way to renew our minds is by studying the Bible and getting God’s Word inside our hearts. I am currently using the Professor Grant Horner Bible Reading Plan. I think it is one of the best. You can easily find more about this plan by doing a web search.

Romans 12:1-3 – TYNDALE’S NEW TESTAMENT, 1534

[1] I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercifulness of God, that ye make your bodies a quick sacrifice holy and acceptable unto God which is your reasonable serving of God.

[2] And fashion not yourselves like unto this world: But be ye changed in your shape, by the renewing of your wits that ye may feel what thing that good, that acceptable, and perfect will of God is.

[3] For I say (through the grace that unto me given is) to every man among you that no man esteem of himself more than it becometh him to esteem: but that he discreetly judge of himself, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Here are the same verses from the King James Version:

Romans 12:1-3 KING JAMES VERSION

[1] I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.

[2] And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

[3] For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Store

No pressure from me — for anyone — to buy anything.

I am truly encouraged by all who visit here. I hope you learned something about William Tyndale and his work and of course, learned more about God’s Word, too.

However, if you are curious about owning a William Tyndale Bible? Check out our small Store. Orders are fulfilled by Christianbook Distributors located in Peabody, Massachusetts, USA.

The British Library paid over one million pounds in 1994 for an original copy of the 1526 New Testament. A facsimile (digital photocopy) of this same New Testament is available in our store — for a very reasonable price.

We have items in the store related to William Tyndale and items related to the King James Bible. Some are very inexpensive.

One example, you can rent via streaming the “Man with a Mission” documentary which features Tyndale scholar, David Daniell. It is very low cost, but quite an interesting video.

For full disclosure, I do earn a small advertising fee, if you purchase something.
